What is Basic Life Saving
Basic Life Support (BLS) training (sometimes called Basic Life Saving training) is a professional-level emergency care course.
It teaches how to recognize life-threatening emergencies and give high-quality CPR, use an AED, and help with choking, mainly for adults, children, and infants.
BLS Covers:
- Recognizing cardiac arrest early.
- High-quality CPR (with proper depth, speed, and minimal interruptions).
- Two-rescuer CPR (working with a team, switching compressors).
- Using an AED quickly and correctly.
- Giving rescue breaths with a bag-valve-mask (not just mouth-to-mouth).
- Helping choking victims (both responsive and unresponsive).
- Prioritizing actions when multiple victims are involved.
- Communication and teamwork skills during emergencies.
Who Takes BLS Training?
- Healthcare professionals (nurses, doctors, EMTs, paramedics).
- Medical and dental office staff.
- Hospital workers.
- Lifeguards.
- First responders.
- Some people in high-risk jobs (like pilots, firefighters).
*(It’s more advanced than regular CPR/First Aid that the general public usually takes.)
